Why we built it

Every new generation of students share the same worry

Before the first lecture even starts, many students are already stressed about finding their rooms. These are comments from students in their own words.

"I teach in a room that is hard to find so I send out an email the day before with a link to a video that shows how to find it. I actually record myself walking from the quad pointing out different buildings and walking into the classroom."

“I teach in a room that’s kind of hard to find (behind two doors) so for the first week I put up signs directing students to it. Seems to have worked pretty well so far.”

“Give yourself an extra 15 minutes before each class to figure it out, some buildings are more confusing than others. Or you can just spend an hour the day before classes start to walk around and orient yourself.”

“I haven’t really been on campus much until now, when classes are actually starting — and I will have no idea where anything is. I don’t want to be late to class or anything.”

“I start my classes on Monday and have ZERO idea where anything is at I didn’t tour the campus or go to orientation because I live 4 hrs away, don’t drive, and everyone is busy 😭 plus the map is literally so confusing 😭”

FAQ

Common questions

What is FindMyLecture?

A website that shows you a short first-person video of the walk from your university’s main entrance to your lecture theatre, so you know exactly where you’re going before you arrive.

How does it work?

Search for your room or pick a lecture from your timetable, then watch the walk step by step. Each step has a caption and optional spoken directions, and you can replay any of them.

When will it be available?

We’re opening university by university, starting where student interest is highest. Show your interest and choose your university so we can see where to go next.

Is it free for students?

Yes, it’s free for students. Your university covers the cost, so you’ll never pay a penny.

Do I need to download an app?

No. FindMyLecture is a website that works in the browser on your phone or laptop.

Is it accessible?

That’s a core aim. Every route has audio narration, captions and a full written version, so the video is never required. You can choose step-free routes, turn on high contrast and larger text, and reduce motion.

My university isn’t listed. Can I still show my interest?

Yes. Choose “My university isn’t listed” and show your interest anyway. It helps us see where students want FindMyLecture most.

How can my university get on the platform?

Staff can use the contact form for universities. We’ll work with your university to plan which buildings and rooms to cover first.

What do you do with my email address?

We use it to count how many students are interested, so universities can see the demand for FindMyLecture. Any email address works. We’ll also use it to send updates about the website, for example when your university is added to the platform. You can unsubscribe from the mailing list at any time.
